Fried chicken and steak are not typically considered to be traditional Korean dishes, but they can be enjoyed in a Korean-inspired meal. Here is a recipe for a Korean-style fried chicken:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 chicken thighs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and gochujang.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then stir in the buttermilk.
- Dip each chicken thigh into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until it reaches 350F.
- Carefully add the chicken to the hot oil and fry for 8-10 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the chicken from the oil and let it drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
As for the black bean noodles, you can make them by sautéing garlic and ginger in oil until fragrant. Then add soaked and drained black bean noodles, soy sauce, sugar, and black bean paste. Cook for a few minutes until the sauce thickens and the noodles are soft.
And for the kimchi, you can make it by mixing together napa cabbage, Korean chili flakes, fish sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, and green onions. Allow the mixture to ferment for at least a few days before eating.
Serve the fried chicken, black bean noodles and kimchi together with steamed rice for a delicious and authentic Korean meal.
